“Double Bough” wallpaper by Morris & Co. as installed in the corner guest room. The pattern was created in 1891 and was based on an 1887 textile design for the firm by John Henry Dearle, known as “Cherwell” (see earlier puzzle).

The Glessners selected “Double Bough” when they redecorated the guest room following the installation of electrical wiring throughout the house in 1892. When the room was repapered in 1916, they selected “Double Bough” once again.

The current wallpaper was reproduced in 2015 by Sanderson, the division of Zoffany which possesses the Morris & Co. archives. It was printed using the twenty-two fruitwood blocks used to print the original. The process is labor intensive as each of the blocks is applied to the paper individually, with drying time required in between before the application of the next block. It took about three weeks to produce each roll.
