“Glessner House is still an unknown treasure in Chicago and nationally.”
We hear this sentiment often. Most recently, it was mentioned during interviews with supporters as a new fundraising plan was being prepared for the House. With your help, we have come a long way but there is still much more to do to maintain and prepare this magnificent landmark for the future.
Recent activity includes:
Installation of our reproduction dining room sideboard, sixteen-foot table, and eighteen chairs, recreating the room’s original appearance and making it available for private rentals;
Completion of our $600,000 geothermal system installation, providing temperature and humidity control throughout the building for the first time in its history, and eliminating the use of natural gas in the building;
Expansion of our in-person and online programming to provide a variety of engaging opportunities to explore the many stories Glessner House has to tell;
Preparation of our new five-year strategic plan to guide board and staff in a series of initiatives to ensure our continued viability and relevancy:
Production of a bi-monthly e-newsletter filled with information ranging from programming to a variety of topics exploring all aspects of our history and that of Chicago and beyond;
Recreation of the magnificent oak porte cochere doors on the front of the house, the last element of the exterior to be restored.
You can help make Glessner House even more successful as we look ahead to our future!
